Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009, will be a day of celebrations, and NPR News and WFAE will have complete coverage of President-elect Barack Obama’s inaugural events (WFAE’s full coverage schedule here).  Leading up to the day, free-lance writer Mary C. Curtis will be blogging here about her experiences while traveling to and in Washington, D.C.

Inauguration Day coverage kicks off at 5 a.m. on Morning Edition with reports on Inaugural preparations as millions of people converge on Washington, D.C.  At 9 a.m. three Charlotteans will be guests on Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins.  Writer Mary C. Curtis, community activist Ahmad Daniels and the Charlotte Observer’s Tonya Jameson will be in the nation’s capitol and giving first-hand accounts of what it’s like to be there.  Special coverage continues from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with uniterrupted coverage of the ceremonies as first Joe Biden and then Barack Obama are sworn into office, followed by the Inaugural Address.  Neal Conan picks up the live coverage at 2 p.m. with a call-in special to gather listeners’ reactions to the President’s address.  WFAE’s Marshall Terry will travel by bus with a group of people from the Carolinas to attend the Inauguration.  He’ll file reports for WFAE News trhoughout his trip.
